An 18 year Barbados single cask from Wu Dram Clan in the Foursquare mould, coconut, vanilla and toffee over polished bourbon oak and tropical fruit, unsweetened at nearly 60% and a classic, intense Bajan sipper for fans of the style.
Description
Wu Dram Clan, the German independent collective, bottled this 18 year Barbados single cask from the 2007 vintage at cask strength, 59.5%. The profile points squarely to the classic Foursquare-style island blend, and it is presented unsweetened, so the sweetness is the cask's own.
Aged in ex-bourbon oak, it delivers the textbook mature Bajan signature. Coconut, vanilla and toffee lead, joined by tropical fruit, dried apricot and a clear, polished bourbon-cask oak with a faint acetone lift, then roasted, nutty notes over a long finish. The nearly 60% strength is well integrated, adding grip and length rather than harshness, though a few drops of water help it bloom. Bottled dry, it reads as a serious, full-bodied sipper rather than a mixer, the older age bringing extra wood and concentration. A satisfying, intense Barbados single cask for drinkers who love the coconut-and-oak house style and want it at full power.
