A bourbon-cask Foursquare at fourteen years and 58%, leaning dry and woody with coconut, caramel, vanilla and cocoa over toasted oak, unsweetened and well balanced, a serious classic-profile Bajan sipper.
Description
This Wu Dram Clan private selection is a 14-year Foursquare, the dry, additive-free Barbados rum from Richard Seale's St Philip distillery, where double-retort pot still is blended with twin-column Coffey rum. Matured purely in ex-bourbon casks and bottled at a full 58%, it sits in the classic, unsweetened heart of the house style.
Straight bourbon ageing suits Foursquare well, and it shows: roasted notes, caramel, coconut and tropical fruit on the nose, then coconut, caramel, wood and vanilla on the palate, with a finish of spice, wood, chocolate and burnt sugar. The profile is dry and woody with cocoa underneath, the texture oily and the 58% well integrated into a long, lightly spicy close. The classic Foursquare markers are all clearly drawn, making this a balanced, serious sipping rum for drinkers who know and like the bourbon-cask side of the distillery.
