Description
Writers' Tears is a Walsh Whiskey blend, unusual for marrying single pot still and single malt with no grain in between, built from sourced Irish stock. This is a single cask release, number 3315, finished in a Florio Marsala hogshead and bottled at 45% in a run of 950 for an event in 2020.
The base spends its early life in ex-bourbon casks before the Marsala finish, an Italian fortified wine wood that adds dried fruit, a leathery depth and an oily, mouth coating texture over the fruity pot still and malt core. As a single cask it captures one barrel rather than a smoothed house average, giving a fuller, more idiosyncratic take on the Writers' Tears style. Bottled at 45%.
