Description
Sansibar is a German independent tied to the famous bar of the same name on the island of Sylt, its single casks much sought after. Filled in 2012 and bottled 2023, the whisky is a 11 year old Williamson. Williamson is the code for teaspooned Laphroaig: add a spoonful of another malt to the cask and it must be sold as a blended malt rather than under the distillery name. The name nods to Bessie Williamson, Laphroaig's mid-century owner.
From ex-Bourbon, eleven years draw out the heavily peated make.
Bottled at cask strength, 53.9%, the cask lends vanilla and a touch of honey. The medicinal smoke is unmistakable, brine and tar behind it.
