Description
Wild Shot Reposado is a mezcal made entirely from Agave salmiana, the large highland species of Durango, Coahuila and San Luis Potosí known locally as the green agave for its grey green leaves and known to take up to twenty five years to mature. The brand was founded by the late US country singer Toby Keith, and each bottle carries a larva, an export era bottling custom rather than a sign of quality.
The salmiana gives a vegetal, grassy and dry mineral character that reads leaner than espadín. Unlike the silver version, this reposado rests six months in former American whiskey casks, which tames the roasted, smoky note the nose first suggests and brings citrus and vanilla forward across a dry finish. Bottled at 43.4%, it keeps enough proof to carry the agave through the wood.
