Wien Gin Violet Vienna Dry Gin

    700 ml / 43%
    New Western

    $80

Soft and floral, with rose petals and violet lifted by fresh basil, bright citrus and just a touch of juniper spice. Vienna’s Kesselbruder steep their rose petals in hot water to coax out the gentlest essences, dialling down the alcohol’s bite. A warm, multi-layered gin that ends on a bitter-fruity note.

Wien Gin Violet was conceived as a small act of togetherness, a Vienna Dry Gin made in answer to the isolation of recent years and built to be quietly moving as well as drinkable. The maker, Kesselbruder, infuses rose petals in hot water to draw out their finest essences gently, a technique that tempers the alcohol while preserving a delicate interplay of herb and flower. Basil, violet root, orange peel, juniper and lemon balm round out the bill.

The nose is floral and gentle, rose petals and violets over fresh basil, citrus and a flicker of juniper. The palate is soft and layered, tart freshness and light sweetness meeting delicate herbs before a bitter-fruity turn, and the finish lingers with floral depth and elegant citrus spice. Pour it with a floral tonic and a scatter of dried rose petals, or stir into a Blossom Martini.
