Description
White Oak Tokinoka Black is a blended whisky from Eigashima Shuzo, produced at the Hyogo distillery and bottled in 2017 for the Japan domestic market at cask strength 50%. The Black sits above the standard 40% Tokinoka in the range, and this Japan release is the domestic counterpart to the European export version. As with other Eigashima blends, some component spirit may be sourced.
Ex-Bourbon maturation defines the character here, with nutty, toasted notes leading alongside cooked fruit, dried fruit and a leathery depth that suggests the wood is contributing significant structure. The cask strength bottling at 50% intensifies all of these elements and gives the blend a fullness and grip unusual for its price tier. The 2017 bottling year anchors it as a specific domestic release in the history of the Tokinoka range.
