Description
White Oak 2015 Akashi HY is a single cask single malt from Eigashima Shuzo, distilled at the Hyogo distillery in 2015 and bottled in 2020 by independent bottler Hideo Yamaoka for the Japan domestic market. A 4 Years Old expression at cask strength 62% in a 500ml format, it is the older sibling of the 2018 release of the same vintage, offering an additional year of Ex-Bourbon maturation and a slightly different character as a result.
The extra year in cask shows clearly in the flavour profile: dried fruit, honey and vanilla all emerge more fully than they would at three years, with fresh fruit adding brightness alongside them. At 62% the Ex-Bourbon influence is concentrated and direct, with the spirit's natural fruit-forward character meeting the wood's contribution in a balance that demonstrates how quickly Eigashima malt can develop under good cask conditions.
