Description
This frizzante comes from Weingut Christian und Thomas Weiss, a family estate in the Austrian south working with the region's fresh, aromatic white grapes led by Welschriesling. It is a semi-sparkling wine made in the tank method, with fermentation kept cool in stainless steel to hold the fresh fruit and the wine bottled at a lower pressure than a full spumante. The result is a soft, gently prickling style rather than a firm mousse, finished dry so the fruit and acidity stay to the fore.
The colour is pale straw with a light, delicate bead. The nose is fresh and floral, with green apple and pear lifted by lemon, lime and a hint of elderflower. The palate is light and crisp, with a soft tingle and a clean, dry finish. Serve well chilled at around 6 to 8 degrees. It makes an easy aperitif and suits green salads, fresh white fish and lighter cheeses.
