Waterford Primavera

Primavera is a spring themed Micro Cuvée from Waterford, part of the distillery's seasonal release line alongside Hearth, Pique-Nique, Feuille Morte and Bons Moments. Distilled in 2018 and bottled in February 2022 with an outturn of 1,000 bottles for the Irish market, the assemblage captures the distillery's character at a specific point in the year. Head distiller Ned Gahan built the blend from multiple Single Farm Origin distillates, following the Waterford Cuvée Concept of layering farm specific spirits in the manner of Bordeaux and Champagne assemblage practice. Every bottle carries the TÉIREOIR code linking to the specific farms and cask records behind the blend.

Maturation used the Waterford standard combination of first fill American oak, virgin American oak, premium French oak and Vin Doux Naturel casks. First fill Bourbon contributes vanillin and coconut lactones. Virgin American oak adds toasted sugar and raw lignin derived spice. French oak delivers finer grained tannins with clove phenolics. The Vin Doux Naturel casks, previously used for fortified sweet wines from southern France, add oxidised fruit esters and concentrated sweetness. Bottled at 50% without chill filtration or added colour.
