Description
Lómhar, Irish Gaelic for 'gem', is the first Cuvée Waterford ever released and the distillery's most historically layered expression. Released in 2020, it brings together ten distinct Single Farm Origin distillates with the first organic spirit produced at Waterford, drawn from the barley of six separate growers. A finishing addition of Pilgrimage, the inaugural 1st Cuvée, makes Lómhar the connecting point between Waterford's two earliest projects. The TÉIREOIR code on every bottle links back to the full cask list and farm records. Only 1,100 bottles were produced.
The cask profile follows the Waterford standard of first fill Bourbon, virgin American oak, premium French oak and Vin Doux Naturel. First fill Bourbon contributes vanillin and coconut lactones. Virgin American oak adds toasted sugar and sharper lignin derived spice. French oak brings finer tannin grain and clove phenolics. The Vin Doux Naturel casks, previously used to age the fortified sweet wines of southern France, layer in oxidised fruit esters and a concentrated sweetness that balances the oak. Bottled at 50% without chill filtration or added colour.
Lómhar carries particular significance in the Waterford catalogue as the expression that first demonstrated the distillery's Cuvée Concept could work.
