Bottled by Warehouse #1 in its Trelawny Explosion series, this is an unaged Hampden HGML overproof at 63 percent. HGML is a high ester marque from the Trelawny estate, distilled from molasses on double retort pot stills, and without any cask ageing the spirit arrives in its purest, most uncompromising form.
With no oak to soften it, the character is all ester and funk, glue, nail polish and synthetic notes giving way to overripe pineapple, mango and a surprising natural sweetness. The palate is fruity, intense and funky, with a long astringent finish. Certified unsweetened, the sweetness here comes entirely from the esters rather than additives. It is a demanding white rum for drinkers who love the Jamaican funk and a standout in cocktails.
