Wakatsuru Saburomaru Wakatsuru Junenmyo

Wakatsuru Junenmyo is a no age statement blend from Wakatsuru Shuzo in Toyama prefecture, released for the European market in 2019. The Junenmyo name, evoking a ten-year cycle, here appears under the parent Wakatsuru brand rather than the Saburomaru sub-brand, placing it at the more accessible end of the company's range. Bottled at 40%, it is the mildest expression in the Junenmyo series.

Matured in Ex-Bourbon casks, the blend carries vanilla and light caramel alongside the distillery's characteristic peated character. The recorded flavour profile for this European edition emphasises coal-gas, oily peat and smoke, notes that are entirely consistent with the Wakatsuru Shuzo house style and the peat levels typical of Saburomaru production. At 40% for an export audience, this is a measured introduction to Toyama's most distinctly smoky whisky tradition.
