Wakatsuru Saburomaru Saburomaru 2021

Saburomaru 2021 is the distillery's annual vintage single malt from Wakatsuru Shuzo's Saburomaru site in Toyama prefecture, released here at 60% cask strength for the Dutch market in 2024 after 3 years of Ex-Bourbon maturation. The Netherlands edition joins a number of market-specific bottlings in the annual vintage programme, allowing different audiences to taste the same distillation year at varying strengths.

At 60% abv, this is among the more powerful releases in the 2021 vintage, and the Ex-Bourbon cask contributes vanilla and light caramel to what remains a heavily peated, assertive spirit in the Saburomaru house style. No specific flavour profile was recorded for this batch, but the distillery's character, built around its ZEMON cast metal pot still and an emphasis on heavy peat, frames the expected experience: full-bodied, smoke-forward and direct from Toyama's most individual distillery.
