Raimat, the Raventós family estate in Costers del Segre, makes this organic rosé from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The cool blend gives a pale, fresh wine with redcurrant, peach and citrus over a crisp, dry finish.
Description
Vol d'Ànima de Raimat Rosé is made by Raimat, the Codorníu group estate run by the Raventós family near Lleida in the D.O. Costers del Segre. It blends Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, an unusual pairing for a Spanish rosé that brings together red fruit delicacy and a citrus, white fruit backbone. Costers del Segre is a dry, continental inland region where warm days and cool nights give a wide diurnal range that preserves acidity and aromatic freshness, while the estate's sustainable farming keeps the vineyards in balance. The grapes take brief skin contact for a pale colour before a cool fermentation in stainless steel that protects the primary fruit. The Chardonnay component adds a little weight and a fresh citrus line without oak. The colour is pale pink. The nose is fresh, showing redcurrant and cherry with white peach, citrus peel and a floral note. The palate is light and dry, with crisp acidity, clean red and stone fruit and a saline, refreshing finish. Serve at 8 to 10 degrees. It suits light fish, shellfish, salads and poultry.
