Vizcarra Senda del Oro is a young Ribera del Duero from Tinto Fino, grown on the Senda de Oro estate at Mambrilla de Castrejón. Seven months in French and American oak give a fresh, direct red of pure fruit with herbal and floral lift.
Description
Bodegas Vizcarra was founded in 1991 at Mambrilla de Castrejón in Burgos, and Senda del Oro is its youthful red, made entirely from Tinta Fina, the local Tempranillo. The fruit comes from the Senda de Oro estate, with 15 year old vines trained as goblet bushes and planted on slopes. Ribera del Duero's high plateau brings a sharp continental climate, and the large temperature difference between day and night lets the grapes ripen fully while keeping fresh acidity and fixing colour and aroma. The poor, well-drained slope soils restrain vigour and concentrate the fruit. The wine spends seven months in French and American oak barrels, enough to round the tannins and add a light frame of spice while keeping the focus on bright, primary fruit. The colour is deep cherry red with a violet rim. The nose is pure and direct, with fresh red and dark fruit, herbaceous and floral notes lending a refreshing lift. The palate is medium bodied and juicy, the fruit carried on supple, ripe tannins and lively acidity to a clean, peppery finish. Serve at 16 degrees. It suits grilled meats, sausages and tomato-rich plates.
