Description
Vivanco Blanco is a white from the D.O.Ca. Rioja, made by Vivanco at Briones in Rioja Alta. It blends three local white grapes: Viura, Maturana Blanca and Tempranillo Blanco, with the Viura and Maturana grown around Briones and the Tempranillo Blanco sourced from Tudelilla. Rioja Alta sits at higher altitude with a cooler, part-Atlantic climate, which lengthens the growing season and keeps natural acidity high, the foundation of a fresh white. The fruit is picked by hand into small boxes so the berries stay whole and the juice does not oxidise before pressing, protecting the primary aromatics. Viura provides the backbone with orchard and citrus fruit and firm acidity, Maturana Blanca adds aromatic lift and green freshness, and Tempranillo Blanco brings body and a touch of tropical fruit. The wine is made without oak and bottled young to keep it crisp and fruit-forward. Expect a pale straw colour, a nose of green apple, lemon and white flowers, and a dry, lively palate with pear, citrus peel and a clean, faintly saline finish. Serve chilled at 8 to 10 degrees.
