Description
Vionta was founded in 1995 on a small sandy island of the same name at the mouth of the Ría Arousa, in Rías Baixas. The fruit comes from fifteen year old trellised vines in three parts of the Salnés valley, planted on granite and sand. This maritime setting shapes the wine: the cool, wet Atlantic climate and constant sea breezes preserve high acidity and give a saline lift, while the granite and sandy soils drain well and add a stony freshness. Trellising the vines lifts the canopy off the damp ground, aiding air flow and even ripening in a humid climate. The wine is fermented cool in stainless steel to keep the fruit and coastal character clear, with no oak. The colour is pale lemon with green glints. The nose shows white peach, apricot and lemon with white flowers and a sea salt note. The palate is fresh and dry, the acidity bright, the finish clean and saline. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees in a white wine glass.
