Description
Vinos del Paseante Leiras is a young single variety Albariño from the D.O. Rías Baixas in Galicia, produced under the Codorníu group. Codorníu was founded in 1551 and is best known for cava, but it now works with still wines across several Spanish appellations, and this is its Rías Baixas white. The region sits on the Atlantic coast, where high rainfall and cool sea air keep the growing season long and the grapes fresh. The soils are largely granite and sand, which drain well and lend Albariño its stony, saline cut, while the maritime setting preserves the grape's natural citrus acidity. The wine is fermented and held in stainless steel to keep the fruit clean and primary, with no oak to blur it. It pours a pale lemon yellow. The nose leads with lemon and lime, green apple and citrus peel over a touch of white flowers. The palate is crisp and dry, with a saline freshness and a clean, tangy finish typical of the grape and its coast. Serve it well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees.
