This Pinot Grigio comes from Goriška Brda on the Italian border of Slovenia, grown on marl and sandstone flysch. Eighteen months in stainless steel on the lees give it real substance, with pear, green apple, citrus peel and a clean saline finish.

Description
Vini Noüe Marinic makes this Pinot Grigio in Goriška Brda, the border hills of Slovenia's Primorska where marl and sandstone flysch soils and a mild sub-Alpine climate give white wines both weight and cut. The Érigone bottling is grown on these free-draining slopes, farmed sustainably, and vinified for freshness rather than colour or grip. It spends eighteen months in stainless steel, an unusually long reductive ageing for the variety that lets the wine settle on its fine lees and gain breadth while the sealed tank locks in aromatics and holds oxidation at bay. The result is a Pinot Grigio with more substance than the everyday style. The soils lend a stony, mineral spine and the cool nights preserve a bright line of acidity through the middle. Expect a pale straw colour, a restrained nose of pear, green apple and white flowers, and a dry, textured palate with citrus peel, almond and a clean saline finish. At 12.5% it stays light on its feet. Serve well chilled at 9 to 10 degrees.
