Bodegas Zorzal make this fresh, unoaked Tempranillo in Corella, in the lower Ebro valley of D.O. Navarra. Bright strawberry, cherry and a floral lift make it an easy, juicy red to drink young and lightly chilled.
Description
Viña Zorzal Tempranillo is a young red from Bodegas Zorzal in Corella, within D.O. Navarra. The winery was founded in 1989 to revive the region's indigenous varieties, working from the principle that wine is made in the vineyard. Its plots sit near Fitero, where gentle terrain forms a small oasis in the lower Ebro valley and brings extra freshness to the fruit. This bottling is made without oak ageing, so nothing stands between the grape and the glass. Fermentation in tank and early bottling preserve primary fruit and the wine's bright natural acidity, the freshness that the cooler, sheltered site encourages. The colour is a vivid cherry red with a purple rim. The nose is clean and lifted, with strawberry, red cherry and redcurrant over a delicate floral touch. The palate is light to medium bodied, juicy and supple, with soft tannins and a crisp, fruit driven finish. This is a wine to drink for its freshness rather than its structure, and it rewards early drinking. Serve slightly cool, at 14 to 16 degrees, with lighter meats, charcuterie and simple weeknight dishes.
