Viña Zorzal Garnacha Blanca is a textured white from D.O. Navarra, made by the Sanz brothers to revive indigenous grapes. Aged nine months in barrel and concrete, it shows white peach, pear and a subtle nutty depth over a balanced palate.
Description
Viña Zorzal Garnacha Blanca is a white from D.O. Navarra, made by the Sanz brothers, Iñaki, Xavier, Mikel and Rafa, whose Proyecto Zorzal is dedicated to reviving the region's indigenous grapes. Garnacha Blanca is a naturally full-bodied white variety that keeps moderate acidity, and Navarra's continental climate, with warm days and cool nights, ripens the fruit while holding its freshness. The wine is aged for nine months split between barrel and concrete: the barrel portion gives slow oxygen exchange and a gentle savoury frame, while inert concrete builds texture and preserves the pure fruit, and time on the lees rounds the mid-palate. The two together produce a broad but fresh white. It is pale gold. The nose is white peach and pear with apricot, white flowers and a touch of beeswax. The palate is dry and textured, medium to full bodied, with ripe orchard fruit, a light nutty edge and a clean, citrus-peel finish. Serve lightly chilled at around 10 to 12 degrees in a white glass. Its weight suits richer fish and white meats.
