Viña Zorzal Crianza is a Garnacha and Graciano red from Proyecto Zorzal in Navarra. Twenty-four months in barrel and concrete give a wine of ripe red fruit lifted by rosemary and thyme, with a savoury, spiced finish.
Description
Viña Zorzal Crianza 2023 is made by Proyecto Zorzal in D.O. Navarra, a blend of Garnacha and Graciano. Navarra sits at the meeting point of Atlantic, Mediterranean and continental influence, and its stony, well-drained soils with cool nights suit Garnacha, which ripens fully while keeping fresh acidity and its lifted, herbal aromatics. Graciano brings colour, structure and a peppery edge. The wine ages for twenty-four months across oak barrels and concrete. Concrete is neutral and lets the fruit stay primary while its thick walls hold a steady temperature, whereas the barrel time softens tannin and adds a measured frame of spice and vanilla through slow oxygen exchange. Combining the two gives a wine that is rounded but still fruit-driven and fresh. The colour is bright cherry red. The nose shows ripe red fruit wrapped in rosemary and thyme, with a touch of pepper and sweet spice. The palate is medium bodied and supple, with fine tannin, fresh acidity and a savoury, herb-edged finish. Serve at 16C. It suits grilled and roast meats, lamb, pork and mushroom dishes.
