Viña Zorzal Chardonnay comes from Bodegas Zorzal in Corella, in the lower Ebro valley of DO Navarra. Made unoaked for freshness, it is a light, easy white with lemon and pineapple fruit, a touch of honey and a clean finish.
Description
Bodegas Zorzal was founded in 1989 in Corella, Navarra, with a focus on the vineyard and on the grapes of the region. Its 40 hectares sit near Fitero in the lower Ebro valley, where gentle terrain forms a cooler pocket among the vines and lends the wines a note of freshness that is not always easy to find in a warm inland zone. This Chardonnay is picked for balance rather than weight and made without oak, so the fruit and acidity stay to the fore. Fermentation at controlled temperature in stainless steel preserves the primary aromatics and keeps the wine clean and direct, while the cooler site holds enough acidity to give it drive. The result is a straightforward, well made white for everyday drinking. The colour is pale lemon. The nose leads with citrus, lemon and a tropical hint of pineapple lifted by a touch of honey. The palate is fresh and light bodied, with pear and melon fruit, gentle stone fruit and a clean, uncomplicated finish. Serve chilled at 9 to 11 degrees. It suits roast chicken, white fish and lighter weekday cooking.
