Description
Vina Sastre, run by the Hermanos Sastre, is a respected family estate in Ribera del Duero, on the high Duero plateau. This rosado is made entirely from Tinta del Pais, the local name for Tempranillo, from vines between 17 and 30 years old. The parcels lie at 800 to 840 metres above sea level around the villages of La Horra and Roa in Burgos, where altitude is the defining factor. Warm days and very cold nights create a wide diurnal range that preserves acidity, colour and aromatic freshness even as the grapes ripen. The wine is made in a traditional manner without artificial additions, vinified young and unoaked so the fruit stays primary and the variety speaks directly. Cool fermentation protects the aromatics. The colour is a bright, clean pink. The nose shows red berries, red currant and cherry with a citrus peel lift and a touch of white peach. The palate is dry and fresh, with the firm acidity of the high vineyards, clean Tempranillo fruit and a clean, gently herbal finish. Serve at 9 to 10 degrees.
