Description
Vina Pedrosa Crianza is a single variety Tinto Fino from Hermanos Perez Pascuas, a family bodega in Pedrosa de Duero at the heart of Ribera del Duero. The vines sit on gently rolling ground over calcareous clay, soil that holds water through the dry summers and lends the wine grip and freshness. The climate is continental with a cold Atlantic influence, the annual average staying below 11 degrees, so the wide gap between hot days and cold nights slows ripening and preserves acidity and colour. Fruit comes from vines of twenty to twenty-five years, picked by hand at a restrained 4,000 kilos per hectare. The wine spends a minimum of eighteen months in American and French oak, where slow oxygen exchange softens the tannins and folds in vanilla, sweet spice and a toasted edge, followed by bottle ageing before release. The colour is deep cherry. The nose carries ripe plum and black cherry over cedar, cocoa and a little leather, and the palate is full and firmly structured, with the oak well knitted into the fruit. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees and decant young bottles. It suits roast lamb and aged sheep cheese.
