Viña Nora makes this Albariño in the Condado do Tea subzone of D.O. Rías Baixas, on the banks of the Miño. The vines grow on granite and alluvial soils and are trained on parral posts, giving a fresh, aromatic white of citrus, orchard fruit and saline minerality.
Description
Viña Nora sits on the banks of the Miño in As Neves, Pontevedra, within the Condado do Tea subzone of D.O. Rías Baixas. This is a 100 percent Albariño from vines between 10 and 20 years old, planted on alluvial soils over granite bedrock. The Atlantic climate here brings high rainfall and humidity, so the vines are trained high on granite posts, the traditional parral system, to lift the canopy, improve airflow and reduce disease pressure in the damp conditions. Condado do Tea lies slightly inland and can ripen Albariño a touch riper than the coastal zones, giving a little more weight while the granite retains the grape's saline freshness. The wine is made in stainless steel to keep the fruit clean and primary. The colour is pale lemon with green highlights. The nose is aromatic, with lemon and citrus peel, green apple and white peach over white flowers. The palate is dry and crisp, driven by fresh acidity, with orchard and stone fruit and a mineral, faintly salty finish. Serve chilled at around 8 to 10 degrees. It suits shellfish, grilled fish and seafood generally.
