Description
Viña Mayor Verdejo is a Rueda white from Caserío de Dueñas in Villaverde de Medina, the estate that makes the brand's Rueda wines within Grupo Bodegas Palacio 1894. The winery works from more than 300 hectares of vineyard in one of the stronger sectors of the D.O., with Almudena Alberca overseeing production. It is mainly Verdejo with a little Sauvignon Blanc, grown on the sandy, stony soils of the high plateau under a continental climate whose wide day to night temperature swing keeps acidity firm and aromatics precise. The wine is rested two months on its lees, a short ageing that adds body and a fuller mid palate while keeping the fruit fresh. The colour is straw gold with greenish reflections. The nose is fresh and lively, showing green apple, pear and grapefruit, and the palate is dry and crisp with the grassy, faintly bitter Verdejo bite, filled out by the lees work. Serve it chilled, around 8 to 10 degrees.
