Description
Bruma del Estrecho de Marín is the project of Elena Pacheco and Isio Ramos, who set out to make single vineyard wines entirely from Monastrell across the D.O. Jumilla, working from the family winery Bodegas Viña Elena. Paraje Marín comes from one named site, vinified on its own to show the character of that plot. Jumilla lies inland in Murcia, hot and dry, with poor limestone soils and very low rainfall, conditions Monastrell is suited to because it ripens late and holds its fruit through the heat. The result is a deep, ripe wine with the natural warmth and 14 percent alcohol of the variety. This bottling is made in a young, fresh style with no oak ageing, which keeps the focus on pure fruit and the stony character of the site. Carbonic or whole berry handling preserves the bright primary aromatics. The colour is deep violet. The nose shows ripe blackberry and plum with black pepper, dried herbs and a touch of liquorice. The palate is medium to full bodied, with juicy dark fruit, soft tannin and a warm, savoury finish. Serve at 16 degrees, lightly cooled in summer. It suits grilled meats and hearty stews.
