Description
Vina Do Avo Blanco is a young white from D.O. Ribeiro, made by Adega Antonio Cajide in Ribadavia, close to the river Mino in Ourense. The estate is named for the grandfather, Manuel, who worked these vineyards for a lifetime. It is a field blend led by Treixadura and filled out with Godello, Torrontes, Albarino, Caino Blanco and Lado, the traditional grapes of the region. The vineyards are sheltered by natural barriers that shield the vines from Atlantic squalls, while the maritime climate keeps nights cool and preserves acidity. Farming is sustainable and low intervention. The wine is fermented in stainless steel and bottled young to keep its freshness, with no oak to mask the fruit. The result is pale straw with green tints. The nose leads with green apple, white peach and elderflower, backed by citrus peel. The palate is crisp and light bodied, with orchard and stone fruit, a floral lift from the Torrontes and a stony, mineral finish that reflects the granite and slate soils. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees.
