Description
Vignamato farm in the Castelli di Jesi, the classic zone for Verdicchio in the Marche, inland from the Adriatic coast. Ambrosia is a Verdicchio Classico Riserva, a category that requires longer ageing and greater concentration than the standard bottling. The hills here are limestone and clay, cooled by breezes drawn between the Apennines and the sea, and this setting gives Verdicchio its firm acidity, its saline character and its stony cut. Verdicchio is a late-ripening variety that holds acidity well, and the Riserva ageing, with extended time on the fine lees, rounds the palate and adds a subtle creamy weight while keeping the fruit fresh. The colour is straw-yellow, the nose shows lemon, green apple, white flowers and citrus peel, and the palate is taut and mineral, closing on the bitter-almond note that marks good Verdicchio and a long saline finish. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees in a white wine glass.
