Bodegas Godelia makes Viernes Godello in Bierzo, from vines rooted in decades old plots. This young white is fermented in stainless steel to keep its bright citrus and ripe stone fruit clear, finishing dry and fresh with a mineral streak typical of the region’s slate soils.

Description
Viernes is the everyday Godello from Bodegas Godelia, a producer in Bierzo, in the north west of Castilla y Leon. The grapes come from vineyards that have been part of the landscape for decades, worked by hand on slate and clay soils. Bierzo sits in a sheltered inland basin where warm days and cool nights slow ripening, so the whites keep their citrus freshness and mineral cut even in a ripe vintage. This is a young wine made to show fruit rather than oak, fermented and held in stainless steel at cool temperatures to protect its aromatics. The colour is a bright pale straw. The nose is intense and open, with vibrant citrus, ripe stone fruit and a light floral note. The palate is dry and fresh, the ripe fruit balanced by clean acidity and a stony, mineral finish that reflects the slate below the vines. This is a wine to drink young while its aromatics are at their best. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees in a white wine glass.
