Description
Marnuthem is based in Bell-lloc d'Urgell, a village on the Pla d'Urgell plain in the province of Lleida, Catalonia, at around 196 metres above sea level. The base wine is Macabeo, the white grape widely grown across Catalonia for both still wine and Cava, which brings soft orchard fruit and a neutral frame that lets the botanicals show. The continental plain has hot days and cool nights that hold freshness in the fruit. The wine is aromatised by macerating wormwood and a set of wild herbs, spices and citrus peel, drawing their bitter and aromatic compounds into the blend before light sweetening. The colour is pale yellow with golden highlights. The nose is intense, blending wild herbs, expressive fruit, delicate spice, citrus peel and fine aniseed. The palate is fresh and aromatic, the herbal and aniseed bitterness balanced by ripe fruit, finishing clean. Serve well chilled over ice with a slice of orange or lemon as an aperitif. It also suits grilled white fish, fresh shellfish and young goats' cheese.
