Yzaguirre Blanco Reserva comes from a Reus winery founded in 1884, a Catalan vermouth benchmark. The white Reserva shows apricot and peach with lemon, grapefruit and orange peel over Mediterranean herbs such as thyme, balancing fresh fruit against a measured bitterness.
Description
Yzaguirre Blanco Reserva is made by Celler Sort del Castell, founded in Reus in 1884 by Enrique de Yzaguirre and long synonymous with Catalan vermouth. Reus sits in the heart of Tarragona's vermouth tradition, where access to local wine and a culture of botanical blending made the town a historic centre for the style. This is the Blanco Reserva, a pale white vermouth given extended ageing, reflected in its higher 18 percent strength and a more developed, layered profile than the standard bottling. A white wine base is fortified and infused with herbs, roots and spices, with wormwood holding the bitter line, then sweetened and rested so the botanicals integrate. The colour is bright gold. The nose offers sweet apricot and peach alongside citrus nuances of lemon, grapefruit and orange peel, lifted by Mediterranean herbs such as thyme. The palate is rounded and aromatic, the fruit and herbs framed by a clean, gently bitter finish that keeps it firmly an aperitif. Serve well chilled over ice with a slice of orange or lemon, on its own before a meal or with light savoury bites.
