Velier Rare Old from 1989

This is a Barbados rum bottled by Velier, the Genoa house under Luca Gargano that became the most prestigious name in collectible rum. Drawn from West Indies Rum Distillery stock, it carries a 1989 vintage with six years of age, matured in ex-bourbon oak and bottled unsweetened at 40%. It predates Velier's full-proof Caribbean era, presented here at a gentler strength. Barbados rum typically lands balanced and rounded, with toffee, ripe banana, vanilla and soft baking spice, fruitier than Cuban and far less funky than Jamaican. Expect that classic Bajan character carried by an early Velier selection.
