Description
Neisson is a small family distillery on Martinique, founded in 1931 and long held in high regard among agricole drinkers. This release pairs that house with Velier of Genoa, the most prestigious name in collectible rum, known for tropically aged, full-proof bottlings free of additives. The rum carries the 2004 vintage and a substantial twenty-one years of age.
Under the Martinique AOC it is fresh cane juice only, with no added sugar. Two decades in ex-bourbon oak under Caribbean heat make for deep extraction and a high angel's share, so this shows maturity well beyond what the same years would give in Europe. Expect a grassy agricole core layered with vanilla, toasted oak, baking spice, cocoa and leather, dry and spice-led at a cask-strength 53.6%.
