A 14 Year Old full proof Mount Gay at 60%, this Velier bottling is dry, woody and intense, with leather, oak, vanilla and a glue and varnish varnish note over dark chocolate, a firm, charred Barbados rum that needs time.
Description
Velier's Mount Gay Elliott Erwitt 2007 pairs the most prestigious name in collectible rum with Barbados' heritage distillery. Velier bottles tropically aged, full proof, additive free rum, and this 14 year old Mount Gay is presented in that uncompromising style, named in tribute to the photographer Elliott Erwitt.
Matured in ex-bourbon oak and bottled at a full 60% with no sweetening, it is dry, woody and intense: vanilla, coconut and a glue and varnish varnish note on the nose, then leather, oak and roasted intensity on the palate, finishing on leather, vanilla, lime and a bitter char. There is real concentration here, and at this strength the alcohol can read sharp until the rum is given plenty of time in the glass. It suits drinkers who enjoy dry, full proof Barbados rum and want a woodier, more austere Mount Gay, one that rewards patience over easy charm.
