A nine year old Karukera single cask bottled by Velier, dry and woody with honeyed fruit, roasted coffee, tobacco and leather, fresh-juice distilled in Guadeloupe and bottled at full strength at 58.4%.
Description
Velier, the Genoa house behind some of the most sought-after collectible rum, selected this single cask of Karukera, a Guadeloupe agricole distillery relaunched in 2002 and known for its single-cane bottlings. Pressed from fresh sugar-cane juice and drawn from a 2008 vintage, it carries Velier's signature approach of tropically aged, full-proof, additive-free spirit.
Column-distilled and matured in ex-bourbon oak, it leans dry and woody rather than overtly fruity, with honeyed pear and tropical fruit on the nose giving way to roasted coffee, tobacco, leather and spice across the palate and a long, roasted, leathery finish. At 58.4% it has real intensity and warmth yet stays composed, a serious post-dinner sipper for anyone who enjoys drier Guadeloupe agricoles pushed to higher proof.
