A cask-strength single-cask Hampden LFCH from 2011, bottled by the celebrated house of Velier at 9 years, intense and estery with tropical fruit, rubber and polish over an oily body and an astringent, overripe-fruit finish at 60.7%.
Description
Velier Hampden Trelawny Endemic Birds (Spindalis) LFCH 2011 pairs Velier, the most prestigious name in collectible rum, with Hampden, the Trelawny estate that defines high-ester Jamaican funk. From the Endemic Birds series, it is a single cask bottled at nine years and full cask strength, showcasing Hampden's signature intensity through the LFCH marque.
Distilled on Hampden's double-retort pot stills from molasses and matured in ex-bourbon oak, it is fruity, alcoholic and polish-driven on the nose, with the rubber and solvent notes that run through everything the distillery makes. The palate brings tropical fruit, overripe fruit and tea-like tannin, finishing astringent with grapes and more overripe fruit. Bottled unsweetened at 60.7%, this is a concentrated, wild Hampden single cask, built for drinkers who want the estate's loud ester character at full strength and an iconic bottler on the label.
