Description
This is a Velier Hampden, a 2020 HLCF in sherry cask bottled for Whisky Live Paris 2023, an unsweetened single-distillery pot still rum from the Jamaican high-ester house. HLCF is one of Hampden's mid-range marques, threshold high-ester and the base of the estate's Rum Fire, so it carries real funk without reaching the extremes of DOK.
Hampden's long wild fermentation and double-retort pot stills drive the ester character, and the sherry maturation adds a layer of berries, nuts and sweetness on top. The result is intense tropical fruit and pineapple with marzipan and spice, the classic Hampden funk spiked with sherry-cask richness. At three years old and 63.5% it is young, hot and full of energy, a punchy, fun expression rather than a polished one. With nothing added beyond the cask influence, it is a vivid Jamaican for fans who want their Hampden at full power.
