A twelve year old Hampden HLCF from Velier at 61.3 percent, a lower ester side of the estate where sugar cane, pineapple, vanilla and chocolate lead over a rounded, gently medicinal finish.
Description
Part of Velier's Rare Cask Series, this is a twelve year old single cask Hampden distilled in 2010 from the HLCF marque. Velier is the most prestigious name in collectible rum, bottling Hampden tropically aged, full proof and additive free, and HLCF sits lower on the estate's ester scale than its DOK and HGML stablemates.
Matured in ex-bourbon and bottled at 61.3 percent, it shows a rounder, less explosive Hampden, with sugar cane running through the profile alongside pineapple, citrus, vanilla and chocolate, and only a light glue note. The palate is rich and tropical, finishing round and gently medicinal. Certified unsweetened, it is a clear, chocolate tinged take on the estate for drinkers who want depth and balance over raw funk, and it carries the strength well.
