A twelve year old Hampden HLCF single cask from Velier at 62.8%, overripe tropical fruit and pineapple over florals, olive brine, licorice and cocoa, finishing on dry tannic oak, a fuller, briner take on the marque at near full power.
Description
Velier of Genoa is the most celebrated name in collectible rum, and its Hampden bottlings are benchmarks. This HLCF single cask from the 2010 vintage is tropically aged, full proof and additive free in the house manner, twelve years old at 62.8%, a serious pour for drinkers who already know the Hampden HLCF profile.
Distilled on double retort pot stills from molasses and matured in ex-bourbon oak under Caribbean heat, it leans into overripe tropical fruit and pineapple with the estate's ester lift, then layers in florals, olive brine, licorice and cocoa. The finish is dry and tannic, the oak firm after years in the tropics. It rewards slow sipping and a generous rest in the glass, opening into one of the brinier, more savoury expressions of the marque, intense and full of character at close to cask strength.
