A 60% Hampden LROK from Velier, this 9 Year Old balances banana, ester and spice with caramel and young oak, distilled on the double-retort pot still and bottled at cask strength, a characterful but mid-tier take on the marque’s funk.
Description
Bottled by Velier as part of the Cristina de Middel collection, this is a 9 Year Old Hampden carrying the LROK marque, the estate's mid-range recipe rather than one of its loudest marks. Hampden in Trelawny distils entirely on double-retort pot stills and sets the standard for high-ester Jamaican funk, here distilled from molasses in 2016 and matured in ex-bourbon before bottling at full strength.
The nose brings ester, banana, spice and caramel, the palate turns woody and fruity with esters and warmth, and the finish carries ester, glue and banana. Tropically aged and bottled at 60%, this is a well-made LROK that sits comfortably in the house style without standing out as the loudest in its set, a solid neat pour for drinkers who already know Hampden and want its banana-and-glue character at honest cask strength.
