A cask strength Hampden LROK of ripe pineapple, banana and tropical fruit over young oak, this 13 Year Old Velier magnum keeps the marque’s mid-level funk loud yet drinkable, distilled on the double-retort pot still and bottled unsweetened at a full 60%.
Description
Bottled by Velier, the Genoa house that did more than anyone to put aged Jamaican rum in front of collectors, this is a 13 Year Old Hampden carrying the LROK marque. Hampden in Trelawny is the reference point for high-ester funk, working entirely on double-retort pot stills, and LROK sits in its mid range, ester-driven but not at the ceiling of the loudest marks. Distilled from molasses in 2010 and bottled at 60% from a magnum format.
Expect pineapple and ripe tropical fruit cut with the young-wood freshness of the spirit, esters lifting the nose and a clean oak frame on the palate. The finish stays fruity, pineapple and banana over woody spice. Tropically aged at origin, cask strength and certified unsweetened, it offers the wild Hampden signature in a shape that reads more accessible than the distillery's most explosive bottlings, a neat sipper for those who already know the house.
