Description
Absolutio is a Velier and Foursquare collaboration, a fifteen year old Barbados single blend that takes the distillery's recognisable coconut and vanilla signature and wraps it in a deep layer of Port fruit. Foursquare under Richard Seale works in the classic Bajan manner, marrying heavy double retort pot still rum with cleaner column still spirit, and bottling it with no added sugar, colour or flavouring. This release sits at the richer, darker end of that catalogue.
The spirit was matured entirely in the Caribbean, where tropical heat drives faster oak extraction and a heavier annual loss to evaporation, then finished in Port casks that bring raisin, dark chocolate and red fruit alongside the toasted oak and burnt sugar. At 62% it is bottled at full strength and reads completely dry, so the sweetness is fruit and barrel rather than dosage. It rewards slow sipping and a little time in the glass to let the Port and the coconut settle together.
