Vanilla, dried apricot and burnt sugar wrapped in deep oak, a Velier Enmore drawn off the wooden Coffey still and bottled at full proof, dark and intense yet carrying its 61.2% with unusual polish.
Description
An Enmore from Velier, the Genoa house that built its name on full-proof, additive-free Demerara, here capturing the only wooden Coffey still left in the world. Distilled in 1995 and aged sixteen years, it shows the elegant side of Enmore's continuous still character, woody but layered rather than blunt.
Made from molasses and matured in ex-bourbon oak, it pours dark and unsweetened at 61.2%. Expect vanilla and dried apricot over cedar and oak, a palate of burnt sugar and intense roasted wood, then a long finish of toffee and chocolate. The strength reads more as concentration than heat, the kind of old Guyana profile that asks for patience and a little air in the glass.
