A Velier Enmore single cask off the wooden Coffey still, thirteen years at 56.6%, floral and tropical for the marque, with citrus, woody varnish and spice giving way to an intense, floral, fruit-laced finish.
Description
Velier is the most prestigious name in collectible Demerara, and this 1987 Enmore is one of its single casks, tropically aged and bottled at full proof, 56.6%, without additives. Enmore runs the last wooden Coffey still in the world, here showing the lighter, more aromatic side of Guyanese rum rather than heavy Port Mourant weight, with the lighter profile pointing toward the Savalle column.
The nose is fruity and woody with pronounced floral notes, citrus and tropical fruit, the palate deepens with wood, varnish and spice, and the finish stays intense and floral with tropical fruit returning. There is light vanilla and a glassy varnish lift in the classic style. Opinions split on its weight, some finding it lighter on the palate than the Enmore name promises, but at this proof and vintage it remains a characterful, floral old Demerara for collectors and experienced drinkers.
