Velier Caroni Heavy Rum HTR 1984

Few names carry the weight of Velier Caroni. The Genoa house, led by Luca Gargano, rescued thousands of forgotten casks from Caroni's abandoned bond after the Trinidad distillery closed, bottling a finite tranche at or near cask strength and tropically aged. This 1984 heavy release, aged twenty four years at 58.3%, sits at the heart of that legend.

Distilled from molasses and matured in ex-bourbon oak, it delivers the archetypal industrial Caroni profile: tar, anise and smoke wound through roasted wood, with vanilla and cherry on the nose giving way to a dense, oily, medicinal palate. The finish is long, woody and smoky with a thread of dark fruit. This is a savoury, full proof rum for slow, deliberate sipping, scarce and prized as a reference point for the heavy Trinidad style.
