A cask strength Bologne from Velier, seven years old at 54.9 percent, bright with lime, orange peel, fresh cane and green herbs, a dry, vegetal Guadeloupe agricole with youthful bite and herbal depth.
Description
Bottled by Velier, the Genoa house behind much of collectible rum's reputation, this Flora Antillarum draws on Bologne in Guadeloupe and is made from fresh sugarcane juice under the island's IGP. A seven year aged agricole, it is bottled unsweetened at cask strength, 54.9 percent.
Column distilled and matured in ex-bourbon wood, it stays remarkably bright and white in character for an aged rum: lime, orange peel, fresh cane and green herbs lead the nose, with a herbaceous, vegetal palate carrying citrus and a touch of pepper. The finish is herbal, citrusy and dry. It can show a little youthful bite and a bitter edge, very much a rum for drinkers who already enjoy dry, grassy agricoles. The Bologne cane character runs right through it.
