Description
Vame Malts 2016 is a blended malt Scotch from VAME Malts. It vats Campbeltown malts, Glen Scotia among them. Its water is drawn from Crosshill Loch above the town.
Glen Scotia's oily malt rounds it with a coastal, salted edge. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, a soft vanilla beneath the coastal spirit. Refill oak lets the salty, oily Glen Scotia character lead the way. The slow distillation and shell and tube condensers give the oily Glen Scotia body. The maritime setting on the Kintyre coast threads salt and brine through the spirit. The Glen was added to the Scotia name around 1930, the distillery dating to 1832. The cool, salt laden Campbeltown air gives a slow, coastal maturation in the warehouses. Its long ferment, averaging well over a hundred hours, builds a fruity, coastal character. It has been owned by the Loch Lomond Group since the 1990s, after many changes of hands.
At its natural 57.1% it is concentrated. Sea salt, citrus and a salted toffee run through it, oily and coastal. Citrus, brine and a salted toffee fill the middle. Citrus, salt and a soft oak see out the finish. A characterful blended malt Scotch.
